Whether you already know what you want to do or haven’t yet decided, thinking about your future can seem daunting. There are lots of resources out there for you to access to help you get planning:
This website requires you to register (you can use your school email address) but it is completely free and you can then store all your quizzes and searches. It helps you to see what skills you already have as well as providing information about a wide range of jobs and career sectors.
Similar to Career Pilot, you can register for free and then save any resources you find. This website also has a wide range of information on education pathways and support in choosing options subjects.
This is a government funded group who provide careers information, advice and guidance. They can help at all different stages of your career. Their website provides skills assessment, advice on making career choices, getting a job and how to progress in your career. You can also search for information on specific careers and find information regarding work hours, salary and the qualifications and skills needed for that role.

Each week we will share MyPath’s Job of the Week to give you a flavour of the variety of career paths available.
Labour Market Information
LMI is data about jobs and industries that helps us understand the economy. Â It is a useful tool to help research future jobs in the local area, understand the skills needed for certain roles and the demand for future employment.
LMI helps people explore and investigate key aspects of a particular area of employment including:
- The sectors, industries and businesses that operate
- The jobs that exist
- The number and type of vacancies available
- The sectors and the industries that are predicted to grow and increase in the coming years.
- Travel to work routes
- The kind of skills that are/will be needed by industries and businesses
- Pay and progression routes.
Interpreting and narrowing down LMI that is applicable to a young personâs needs can become overwhelming, it is therefore better to start researching areas of interest and concentrate on those industries. We also recommend looking at local resources:

LMI for all Careerometer:
Careerometer can be used to explore and compare key information about occupations, help you learn about different occupations and identify potential careers.
It provides access to a selection of UK headline data relating to pay, weekly hours of work and future employment prospects for different occupations, as well as description of the occupation.
Simply type in the title of the job you are interested in and the widget provides a series of options from which you can select the most relevant to you. You can then look up another two occupations and compare. You can also select âdisplay the UK averageâ and compare the information with the occupation you have selected.

is a service provided by the Office for National Statistics, ONS, to give you free access to the most detailed and up-to-date UK labour market statistics from official sources. You can select a specific area, such as Cambridgeshire, to find local information.
ONS â www.ons.gov.uk
The Office of National Statistics provides data on People in and out of work covering employment, unemployment, types of work, earnings, working patterns and workplace disputes. Each month they also publish a Labour market overview, UK.
